Hack description

The purpose of this hack was to make the original Mega Man II much easier for gamers that find games that aren't too incredibly tough more enjoyable.

Key changes:

The vast majority of spikes and bottomless pits are eliminated. There are still some left in to provide at least some challenge.

The player has a larger capacity of Bubble Lead, Metal Blade, Quick Boomerang, and Crash Bomb.

This hack was created with the use of the Rockman2 Editor Level Editor.

Modern gamers love challenge too!danuffo2020-08-22Version 1.0

I am a 2020 player and I never had a problem with the original harder Megaman 2 game, but I was curious to test this hack.

Well, the good intentions are there, but the level designs decisions are very questionable and they are not totally good, for example there is a deep pit in Metal Man 's stage where the player character can't escape in anyway, as a consequence player must turn off the game and start again.

In the other situations certain sections of levels become pointless, for example the beginning of Bubble man's stage had already few smal enemies.

The powers are unbalanced because some powers are now useless here, and at the same time the player will find unescapable parts (get stucked without death) where is worse than a harder game.

Megaman 2 was a GOOD game, the challenge level was all right, the only real flaw is this: Player can't refill a mandatory special weapon in the final stage of the game which is necessary to make a minimal damage to the last boss(fortunately there is a Refill weapon patch made by Thirteen 1355 that fixes this problem).

This Megaman II Simplified doesn't even care about the Final Stage which is still a empty stage and player can't refill the only useful weapon tank to make damage to the last boss. SPOILER:Bubble lead

Like I said, there are some level designs where you can get stucked, so I don't really recommend this until, maybe if it gets more polished.

If you really want a real Easy mode for Megaman 2 without unnecessary changes in the level designs, there is a "Mega Man II Weapon Hack" patch around here in this site that you may check out better.

If there is a game that really deserve a level design change, it must be Megaman 1, only for the magnet beam part, but that's not aplicable to talk here.

Really Good hack for modern gamers!legendarysnake12020-01-10Version 1.0

I really liked this hack, all stages now are easier to complete and more forgivable, with is perfect for me, a 2020 gamer. I grow up playing megaman x4, x5 and x6 with ultimate armor, because, in my opinion Capcom is a bad company to balance their games. Megaman? Too hard. Street Fighter? too hard. They should contract Megafield64 to make a simplified version of all megaman games, from 1 to 10 on their legacy edition. Mega man is unfair for today standards and it has a lot of trial and error and memorize patterns. This is really not fun. Some stages should have been reworked by capcom to be more fair. The game has a lot of leap of faith, which is pretty bad imo. About the hack The average megaman shot does more damage on all bosses(except willy... why not willy the hardest boss dont have this also?). Most stages have now bridges on the botton, so no more deaths for falling in pits! Except on willys castle. I missed a bridge on the dragon boss on willy castle, please improve the hack doing that Megafield64, that part is hard for a easy hack. A problem that could be fixed on that hack, is inserting words to make it easier to know what the power up is. P, H, A, W, B, Q, F, C, M, 1, 2 and 3... its not intuitive. Some attacks like the leaf one are weird because you are not allowed to shot or do anything before leaf attack ends. Overall its a good hack, and the definitive way to play mega man 2 today, but not as good as the first Megaman 1 Simplified. The main problem is that the bosses on Willy Castle 4 or 5 stages could be modified and deal less damage, and before the final battle it could be always have 2 energy tanks there, and more refill pills. I had to use save state on the final 8 bosses before the ending. In the moment im typing this review, im in the final battle against willy and im have to use save state on that fight after every shot i can hit him. I recomend playing this over the original game, that can be a frustating experience. Please improve this hack more Megafield64.

Mega Man II Simplified

Levels: Bad

Graphics: No Change

Music: No Change

Enemies: No Change

Bosses: No Change

Weapons: Bad (rebalanced ammo usage)

Castle: Bad

Difficulty: EASY

Comments: An abysmal hack with nonsensical adjustments. Certain sections have been completely neutered and rendered pointless, while there's a couple of other trickier sections (eg Wood Man's dogs, Air Man's clouds) that haven't been changed when they should've. Bosses are also unchanged which defeats the purpose of making an "easy" hack, and some of the changes are downright laughable (all the insta-death in Wily 3 has been removed). An unnecessary hack that fails at its one premise.

Very poorly polishedNARFNra2014-02-22-

This hack does about what it says it does. It makes Mega Man 2 simpler. Unfortunately, it isn't exactly the nicest looking hack. The changes are very ugly and do not look like much work or thought was put into them. For example, there is a pit in Metal Man's level with is one square too deep for Mega Man to escape, forcing you to reset the emulator. There's a platform for some sections of Air Man's stage that is too low to jump from, serving essentially no purpose unless you have Item 1 and forcing you to suicide.

In all cases, the simplification is accomplished by boring and graphically jarring additions and removals. No spikes are in ANY of the Wily stages anymore, making what little difficulty they had completely nonexistent.

In addition, the weapons chosen to be modified are a bit confusing. More Crash Bomb is always welcome, but Metal Blade, Bubble Lead, and Quick Boomerang were already by far the most numerous weapons in the hack. If anything, it would have been more useful to see Atomic Fire, Leaf Shield, and Air Shooter given time to shine.

To sum up, the hack is lazy and manages to make a fairly impressive game quite boring. I would not recommend it except for if you want to help people who don't play games at all have a chance, and even then cases like the inescapable pit in Metal Man's stage are more likely to turn them off than an ordinary death would.
