Hack description

One of the things that put me off about the Gameboy CV games was the slow walking speed of the protagonists. While I understand this was due to the old school Gameboys blurring very badly when ANYTHING moved, in the age of emulation it's just a pain in the ass.

Therefore, I hacked Castlevania Legends so Sonia moves faster than usual.

In v1.0, Sonia moved as quickly as when Burning Mode was activated. Due to complaints, I slowed her down a little (By using a different method to hack her speed), so Burning Mode still provides a speed bonus along with its other benefits.

There is also a patch for the japanese version of the game as of v1.1. The most notable difference is that it uses SRAM instead of passwords.

Makes it way betterIndianaRoy2021-08-08Version 1.1

As someone who played the game before, on the GBA, I definitely remember how slow it was. Even if it was done to mitigate the blurriness of the first Gameboy screen, it's not a good way to play on modern displays so this patch makes it way better

Do not play this game any other waySupergamerguy2021-03-07Version 1.1

I tried playing the vanilla version of this game and ragequit during level 3 (even with the use of save states). However, this hack allowed me to beat the game all the way through with less frustration. This hack turned the game from a literal slog to a mediocre platformer that I could find at least a little bit of enjoyment in. There's no reason to ever play the vanilla experience again; if you are interested in this game, use this hack to make the game bearable.

Great hackMathUser29292016-06-04Version 1.1

This is the way to play the game. By default Sonia Belmont moves really slow. This in combination with really long levels can make this game a bit of a bore. The walking speed seems to be about as fast as the other Game Boy speed hacks so it feels very natural. 1.0 made her default speed as fast as her burning mode so avoid that version if you find it online anywhere. Recommended.

The only way to play this gameRodimus Primal2013-06-23-

Version 1.1. I've always loved Castlevania and the original Gameboy games felt like I was playing in slow motion the entire game. Now with this hack you can have Sonia move at a pace that doesn't crawl. This does make the game easier though as jumps that were originally a super challenge are now easier to get across. Finally feels more like the NES Castlevania games.
