This hack doesn't have all of the crazy custom tiles that the heavy hitters have, but it's still great! The palettes make the areas pretty special, end even subtle things like that part where the screen goes dark after defeating a boss bring beautiful, nightmarish scenes. The overworld map is well-designed, using secret exits as shortcuts and paths to Switch Palaces, which show up right when you need them. The actual levels are very intelligently designed, too; even when they're bordering on brutal, they're structured in such a way that you can get through them quickly, so you're not frustrated and forced to wait to proceed. There are even a few levels with some pretty clever puzzles. The music was pretty good, too; the final castle's remix blew my mind. My favorite level is Lemmy's Castle (#6), which has a lovely aesthetic (including translucent Thwomps) and a song from Link's Awakening that complements it perfectly, even moreso with the Super Mario World soundfont. This might seem plain on the surface, but it is absolutely worth your time.

I played through this today from start to finish, getting every exit along the way, during a ROMhack stream I do every Monday and I absolutely adored it. The remixes were fantastic and set the mode for each and every stage. Most everything was familiar with a few new twists and surprises never-before seen, some new enemies, a couple of unique boss battles and then some. Everybody that watched the stream also loved it: many complimented the music and the difficulty curve of the game, as well as the fact many stages' enemies fit the theme of the stage very well. It made for a very fun, awesome stream session and afternoon. I absolutely recommend this to any SMW fan, new or old.
