| A bit misguided, but still better than the original | BlazeHeatnix | 2018-08-15 | Version 1.0 |
This was a valiant effort towards improving the game. I especially like how you rebalanced hot dogs to require spending more money, as you'll never use as much money as they give you in the normal game. But the question on my mind here is if it's better than the PAL release, which already lets you shoot through walls and increases damage done to enemies. And I would have to say no. Applying both these things to the NTSC release would be great, and this is an improvement over the original game, but you only applied the former, which means enemies are still bullet sponges and mowing through them is still a chore, even with a turbo controller. I'm also not a fan of your other change, which was the removal of downgrades. Why people see the downgrades as an issue, I will never understand. Not only are they a non-issue as long as you're paying attention to the enemy drops, but they're part of the challenge. It may be a little annoying when you accidentally pick one up, but on the flipside, this hack makes it so you can permanently max out your gun before you even get to the first boss. There was nothing wrong with the original system, so I fail to see this as an improvement.
| Excellent Hack! | lexluthermiester | 2016-04-10 | Version 1.0 |
For those of us who have played, and even loved Fester's Quest, we know full well how frustrating the game play is. Granted, such game play made a player strive to be better and improve one's playing skills, like many other games of the time. But this game was a bit too much on the difficult side[like Battletoads], enough that it induced controller throwing fits, one of the few games that could do that to me. Enter the Game Genie... Ahhh, much better,... sort of. Cheating was fun and interesting, but left you with a kind of empty feeling. Still fun though. Now, decades later, we have this mod. OHHH the bliss! This is exactly how the game needed to be originally! Just the right balance of challenge and fun. And none of the red blocks[they always looked pink to me] to down-grade your powers. This hack applied can easily be considered the definitive version of the game! WELL DONE DEV! Well done indeed! Highly recommended! Play it, dig it, love it!
