Look, it's stupid. But undeniably fun for MMX fans.RockEsper2021-06-05Version 1.0

There's something very off about starting a game of X1 and landing onto a brick, uh, wall(?) with a purple gradient background and literally no other level details. Like something out of a D-List dev's hopeless attempt to make a SNES game in 4 weeks. Well obviously this is much more acceptable because it's a free work by one person, but anyway... IT'S WEIRD AND A BIT BAD.

But at the same time, you are X. You're dashing, wall climbing, and rapid lemon shooting around these fever dreams called levels. And that is always a good time. SOPHIA here brings us, through many hours of work, a slew of new playgrounds to battle through as our favorite blue hero on the SNES, and I relish the opportunity. The memories of playing a fresh SNES X game are so distant they practically don't exist, so it really is quite a novel experience to pick up the 16-bit reins and explore in uncharted territory once again, even if said territory seems like it was shat out of purgatory.

It's good I guess... although graphically it's kind of a joke. Each boss level has a distinct graphical style but are made up of only about 2-3 different tiles. Looks very amateur hour. It seemed alright. Nice to play in new levels it's just that they look like something out of Super Mario or something. I dunno. This is a borderline recommend.

Definitely Worth PlayingWebbhead082017-01-16Version 1.0

I have played through, although not completed, most of the initial stages of this hack, and it has been a rewarding experience.

I am not the best Megaman player ever, but have completed all of the NES and SNES megamans numerous times and the difficulty for this game feels great - very similar to the original but slightly more difficult, perhaps because I don't know the layouts of this one so well but also due to some nicely added twists.

Constructive criticisms so far, and these by no mean majorly detract from the game, just points that could be polished:

  • Storm Eagle level has some insta-death spikes on top of ceilings where you might be exploring, a brutal surprise that could be avoided with additional tiles?
  • Boomer Kwanger when you restart after death, second spot I think, you automatically get damaged by the flying enemy, unavoidable ...
  • Launch Octopus also has some 'hidden' insta death spikes where the simple inability to go or a ceiling would suffice I think, rather than *poof death* while trying to look around

These are few and far between so far and am loving just about every minute of my adventure, boss AI / layouts are excellent as well.

Play this if a fan of Megaman for sure -

Sloppy presentation, but well receivedLance2017-01-04Version 1.0

This hack is something I have wanted to see for years and I was so excited to download and play one of the first Megaman X hacks that completely changes the game.

This particular hack does well in the graphics department, as each stage comes with custom tilesets that look really nice. In addition, most every stage has new music to accompany it. There are quite a few from Megaman 7 and Megaman and Bass.

When you start to play the game, one common occurrence that will distract you is the roughness of some of the programming or ideas that went into Megaman X Generations. One of the first things you will notice on the intro stage is that X already has the ability to dash. But you don't actually have the boot upgrade yet. The result is that when you do dash, part of X's animation is missing, and you will only see his head. This is due to the original designers never having intended the player to dash without the upgrade, so there were no sprites made.

There are quite a few of these little things in the hack where either the author didn't seem to mind or was unable to fully accommodate the changes made. However I have played this version in its entirety and can confirm that it is 100% playable.

I would have to recommend this hack based on a good amount of effort put into creating this new version to experience.
