Super Mario World (USA) - NOINTROHack description
What if Mario is Missing weren't a boring edutainment title? This hack intends to be what most players expected Mario is Missing to be: a platformer starring Luigi on a quest to save Mario. The hack contains 7 Worlds and is comparable in difficulty to official Mario games.Screenshots

As described in the description, this is what fans like myself wanted was a platformer starring Luigi to save the day. I like the design that Luigi has his signature look instead of looking exactly like Mario in SMW by taking graphics from Super Mario 3 along with the engine (the cool menu on the bottom) The game does not have a save function unlike Super Mario World so you need to save state to keep your progress. The levels are well designed. It starts off quite simple and you will accumulate many extra lives. The stage artwork is appealing and the remixed music is welcome and nice to listen to. The worlds are fun to just see. The timer is forgiving too. Now, as for getting the extra lives, you are going need them. As you progress, the game naturally becomes more challenging. Still good for casual players at first, then becomes more for experienced players by the middle of the game then by the end becomes quite punishing and downright unforgiving. The number of my extra lives quickly depleted. I mentioned the save state requirement earlier because by the end, I was using a bunch just to win. To summarize, I do like the hack. I see where the people behind this were thinking and it's appreciated. It's easy on the eyes and ears and starts right, just be prepared to unleash your inner masochist by the end.
| A nice new take on the SMW experience | jm102887 | 2020-01-23 | Version 1.1 |
So I had just finished another SMW hack and came upon this one, so I figured heck, why not keep playing some SMW stuff? :P WORLD: Feels about as long as the regular Super Mario World game, though there is no "World 8", just 7 instead. Granted, some of the lands have quite a few levels so it makes up for "missing" a world. We have most of the standard fare with a grass land, desert, ocean, jungle, mountain, sky, but the last world is fairly interesting since it combines both fire and ice. This is significant as the final world is typically more attributed with decaying wastelands and fiery volcanoes, so it's a bit different to see a frozen land amidst boiling lakes of lava. GAMEPLAY: Again, typical SMW fare, though this one feels a little bit closer to SMB3, and I think that's what the developer was going for since the status at the bottom of the screen and most of the graphics looked ripped straight out of Mario 3 remakes. This isn't unwelcome though, given 3 gives SMW a pretty hefty competition for best Mario game ever, in my opinion. Overall, this hack is somewhat on the simpler side, though it does start to pick up a little bit about midway through the game. None of the secrets are particularly hard to find...except one, and I had to actually watch a walkthrough in order to find it since it wasn't apparent in ANY way (need to find all 5 A coins before you can enter a particular pipe). Honestly, this annoyed me a little since there was no hint to it at all, and it's mandatory since that particular secret will lead to one of the Switch Palaces. Nowhere else were you required to find all A coins, so being forced to on this ONE level was a bit frustrating. Otherwise, this game isn't too hard at all. I will say, I did like the cameos from other games in the Mushroom Houses :P FUN: Yeah, it's pretty fun all in all ^_^ The levels are varied, I liked the different uses of music from not only other games, but throughout the SMB history since you hear music from Super Mario Land, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario 3, Super Mario World, and others. And it was nice to play as Luigi, though there's several hacks out there that allow you to do so. I honestly REALLY wanted him to yell out "Go, WEEGEE!" during his victory pose at the end of regular levels, but meh :P A few nitpicky things though: It would have been nice to be able to play this with some of Luigi's differences from Mario being implemented, such as his higher jump but looser control for example, as otherwise we're just playing with a glorified palette swap. Not sure if it COULD have been implemented, but it's a suggestion. One thing I did find...odd...is that there's no animation for small Luigi to duck. Rather his sprite...shifts down slightly on the screen if you press down. I don't know if this was an oversight or something, just a thing I noticed. MY RATING: 8/10 Overall, it's a bit on the easy side, and while there's a few things here and there, not a whole lot sets it apart from other Mario hacks and games. I will say the final battle is really good, compared to the fact that many other hacks like this will simply reuse the standard SMW final boss fight. It's good, it's fun, but it feels....a BIT lacking. There isn't a special world to find, secrets are solely for the purpose of shortcuts, additional levels, the switch palaces, or the Mushroom Houses for quick supplies, so really there's hardly much reason to go out of your way for secret hunting. My recommendation...play this if you simply want to play something in the SMW style but fits more in line with Mario 3 as it focuses more on the action within the levels as opposed to exploring and finding new secrets on a large, open world.
| Well, there goes however many hours of my life it takes to finish this | Spooniest | 2020-01-20 | Version 1.1 |
I've been around this site for quite a while now. I will fully admit to having 8 points against any romhack before I've even tried it. It is difficult for me to get into a hack. This sounded interesting, and the reviews were all glowing, so I gave it a whirl to see what the fuss is about. Here is what, in my opinion, the fuss is about. There's an artfulness to the way this has all been pulled together which I don't usually see in fan-made content. It's really quite well done. Backgrounds, enemies, player sprites and sound effects are pulled from various other SMB games on the SNES, and Mario World's control scheme is kept mostly intact, though it feels like they even kind of tightened up the controls a bit, which is very welcome. Mario World could get a little zany with all the twitchy, fidgety nudging you have to do to land a jump correctly. Here, it's a bit more solid. The story is kept out of the way (as you might expect), but there is one real detail which I've saved for last which gets me in the smiley feels. The music for this is just phenomenal. It's so good that I don't want to spoil it. You should play this, and listen to the music tracks they made for it. They're REALLY GOOD. As far as what criticism I could give it, the levels do tend to stay mostly in the left-to-right scrolling range of SMB1, and don't often venture into the vertical area which SMW's engine allows, but I can't really say that this is true throughout the game, since I only beat the 1st castle and got up to the 2nd world. Additionally, I feel like not giving the various worlds names, but just calling them by numbers (as in SMB1 and 2), a la "1-1, 1-4, etc" is a bit sterile. But this is how hard I have to think to find something to criticize about this game, you know. That should say something in and of itself. Even with some minor weirdnesses as those, however, I give this one full marks. Go for it, you won't be sorry. P.S. - I didn't know where to put this stuff in the review, but I wanted to note that Super Luigi/Firey Luigi's shoes look very nice. Something about them is different, and I like it a lot. Also, the added subtle touch of moving Small Luigi down a pixel when you try to go down a pipe, and cannot, to show that you performed the action, was also a really neat touch. "Ok not this one." Very decent work.
| I absolutely loved this hack | Vallenatero2015 | 2020-01-19 | Version 1.1 |
This is an excellent hack. In fact, the gameplay is excellent, beautiful graphics and maybe some new sprites surprise this game. That's why this hack deserves my positive support.
| Really worth a playthrough. | Chronosplit | 2018-12-12 | Version 1.1 |
This is relaxing, fun, and about par for the course with your typical Mario game in difficulty. The stages are varied with a high standard of polish, and it's just what Luigi deserves. You couldn't possibly ask for anything more here.
| A Refreshing Sight to Behold | BlueAuraEX | 2018-08-24 | Version 1.1 |
Often times, hacks tend to always try and be as hard as possible to appeal only to the absolute most hardcore fans of the specific game it's a hack of. I am very pleased to say that that's not the case with Mario is Missing: Done Right! Not only is the gameplay very solid and balanced but the music tracks chosen for each area in the game is a perfect match to the selected area it's playing in (with the exception of 7-7...I really expected that song to sound better than it did). All-in-all, this hack's the greatest SMW hack I've ever played (yes, I just said that because Brutal Mario World gets far too much credit...) and you should definitely add this one to your collection. I'm so refreshed to play a hack that doesn't require me to be a god in order to enjoy it!
| LUGGY'S QUEST. | RealGaea | 2018-07-23 | Version 1.1 |
One of the best SMW hacks without being difficult to casual players. Including some guests from the Mario lore to aid Luigi in his adventure were a nice touch. The educational adventure was ok to me, but this makes it even better (or could have been a mix of the two, ala SMOddysey). And uses a proper Luigi sprite. A must have for the Luigi fans worldwide.
| Title says everything | Okamigen108 | 2018-07-12 | Version 1.1 |
Finally a Game Luigi deserved in the 90's. I've played the first 3 Levels and I liked it. My only problem is that Luigi's movements are too slippery. Still it was really enjoyable.
