Hack description

Secret of Evermore uses the B Button to confirm, with the A Button used to dash. This flies in the face of nearly every other SNES title out there. SoE's control scheme was likely intended to mimic Secret of Mana's, but unlike that game, SoE is hardcoded to use the B Button to confirm in menus.

This patch remedies the issue by changing the button inputs, their associated graphics and text, and forcing the game to use Config 2 when a save is loaded.

Please note, upon starting a new game the control scheme will still default to Config 1 (B Button: Confirm, A Button: Dash). However, each time a save is loaded, the behavior of forcing Config 2 (A Button: Confirm, B Button: Dash) will work as intended. Players are advised to change the button scheme manually when first starting a new game.

This patch is compatible with all of assassin17's bug fixes.

Perfection!FlamePurge2019-06-25Version 1.00

I'll never understand why Square USA didn't simply have Secret of Evermore use the exact same configuration options as Secret of Mana. To make matters worse, the game doesn't write the player's config choice to the save file, (So we have to switch to Config 2 every time we load our game.) and no matter which config setting is selected, players are forced to confirm with the B Button in menus.

Point is, I've been wanting a patch to switch confirm to the A Button ever since I first played SoE as a young kid, and now I finally have it! The fact that it's compatible with assassin17's fixes is a great bonus.

Very much recommended by someone who is happy to be able to finish Secret of Evermore at last.

Great!! AND it's compatible!Final Boss2019-06-24Version 1.00

FINALLY, a button setup for SoE that's more intuitive. The weird setup would often get me killed, but not anymore! I still have massive testing to do on this, but so far it seems to have patched properly using ALL the linked bugfix patches, as well as FuSoYa's 2P hack! I still have to play all the way through to see if anything is amiss or gamebreaking, but so far it seems to work perfectly! You can finally enjoy a convenient and intuitive button layout for Secret of Evermore. Rejoice!
