Hack description

The purpose of this hack was to take the same approach Nintendo took with Ocarina of Time: Master Quest. Numerous Zelda games have a second quest in one form or another, and the author felt that A Link to the Past deserved a similar treatment. The dungeons have detours, rearranged items, tougher enemies, and an intermediate difficulty level. However, an optional "Double Heart Damage" patch is included for those looking for a greater challenge.

Lots of fun! Now without Glitches!lexluthermiester2019-07-25Version 2.00

Update: As of version 2.00, every glitch and problem is seemingly solved and it can now be confidently said that this mod is excellent in every way. Highly recommended for any fan of LOZ3-ALTTP looking for a new challenge. You will not be let down. Download, apply and enjoy!

Original review below; Beyond the glitches mentioned by the author[which are minor], I found this hack a good challenge and a lot of fun. It's not overly difficult but more of a challenge than the original. The changes to the dungeons were creative and interesting. Recommended for anyone who is a fan of the original game and wants a play-through that is a step up from the norm.

Wish Hyrule Castle and Escape Were DifferentEnder of Games2017-12-23Version 1.5

In this version there are just harder enemies that are more keen to Link's whereabouts in these locations. I guess the creator didn't want to change any room sizes or locations, just what is in them, and that just sucks for Hyrule Castle.

I was unsure if I thought the new puzzles were just reordered rooms or if I was just jaded in playing a lot of LttP through randomizers and such. Later in the hack there were some new puzzles and changed puzzles that made me happy, and upon completion I find that I liked this hack. In Ganon's Tower I was actually stuck for quite some time. It is worth a playthrough from most, if not all, LttP veterans.

Since the overworld is mostly unchanged there is no point where you are stuck wondering where to go, but in the DW it feels as if there is a little more freedom in which order you complete dungeons. I find this a little odd, as some early DW dungeons can be easier to complete with items from later dungeons. This aspect only makes it easier for players to move forward if they get stuck on these earlier dungeons, and does not remove from the hack's quality in the end.

It's true that the overworld remains unchanged and the naming screen glitched up, but other than that, this Master Quest IS worthy of its name. The dungeons are not tweaks of existing ones; all of them have detours and harder enemies just like the Master Quest version of Ocarina of Time, the big chest locations have changed, and the contents of many treasure chests have changed. However, the Hyrule Castle dungeon hasn't changed much at all.

If there's anything this Master Quest is missing, the lovely title screen wasn't added and the dungeon maps do not show the new big chest locations. Other than that, this hack is pretty identical to the Master Quest version of Ocarina of Time. This is actually the second attempt at making a Master Quest version of A Link to the Past; however, the first one isn't that great.

A five minute sprite hackpuzzledude2014-02-24-

Another of the master quests not worthy of its name. This game is even more hollow than the other master quest. The overworlds are a 100 percent and the dungeons a 99 percent copy of A link to the past. The layout of the dungeons, which any master quest should change, is not different at all!

The dungeons are identical to Alttp. The only changed thing are sprites (which are now more powerful) and the big-chest locations. The sprite changes are made in such a way, so that the game is only slightly more difficult and would not qualify as a game for masters at all.

The game also has the glitched naming screen (this is common, since the extended hex-study and the exact size of the rom are necessary to fix this).

The only good thing about the game is, that there are no in-game bugs, but other than that playing it is not much different from playing Alttp.
