First off, I gotta say I'm a huge fan of the Evil Dead series and the TV spin-off that's going into it's 3rd season, when I found out about this game from a video I watched on YouTube I thought i'd give it a try and here are my thoughts. The part I like most about this game is getting the Hookshot early, it's always been my favorite item in the Zelda series, things I don't like is the bugged holes that the author could have done something to get rid of, I don't mind having to bomb-jump across edges from time to time but there was way to many in this that got really annoying at times, I'm not the type of player that likes to Save state when doing this and having to save and quit when you get stuck because you got no more bombs to use is pretty lame. The amount of swearing and dirtiness in this game is to much, but doesn't really bother me that much at all, I kinda wish though since your Bruce Campbell (Ash) from Evil Dead I was hoping there would be more quotes from the movies but just alot more nasty words from every character you talk to. Yes, the biggest flaw is the Moon Pearl which is easy to miss and if you don't get it, you go into the dark world as a rabbit and no way to get back and have to play from the beginning again, good thing there's a message warning you to get it. The positive things I like are the extra houses around the game that have the items scattered than from the original, heart pieces and bottles are harder to come by which give the game a good challenge, and the extra changes in the dungeons are nice and quite refreshing too. I'm not saying this is a bad game, I really enjoyed it, I just think the author could have had more potential in fixing the game, but it seemed a bit rushed for what was done for it. Ps: KPG4death, I'm more of a Swedish Death Metal guy than Norwegian Black Metal guy ;) 6/10
| Hard, but rewarding | Darklink7884 | 2014-11-23 | Version 1.1 |
This game is difficult. Very difficult, but still fun to play. The Light World was modified a lot. Village houses were added, some with mini dungeons hidden inside with newly made puzzles. Some village houses have fairy fountains inside them. The Dark World was less modified. The dungeons were extended, and most of them have newly made puzzles, just like the village houses. Bomb jumping is required to clear some gaps, many Dark World bosses are now hard to beat, the use of the Magic Cape is required to get around the spikes, etc. Barriers were also added to force the player to chose the correct path. I have a few complaints about this game. The Hyrule Castle tower has a serious gameplay flaw. After getting the Big Key, you have to backtrack all the way to the dungeon entrance and enter the doorway on the right, where there is a big chest with the Moon Pearl. If you skip the Moon Pearl and arrive at the Dark World without it (you don't get the Magic Mirror until much later in the game), you have to erase your file and start over. A lot of the pits in this game lead to bugged rooms, and there are several in-game warnings about this. Also, the data selection screen is broken. If the author can get to these bugs and fix them, then I'll download the updated patch. Aside from that, just being able to play the entire game with newly made puzzles was well worth it.
| Nice remodel, but too much bugs and cursing | puzzledude | 2014-02-24 | - |
This game has great potential and could be a fine bad-deed remake of Alttp, but unfortunately it fails in doing that. The main idea of remaking the old game is great, since you can clearly see the remodels, that were done on the overworld and in the dungeons. The gameplay is different. There are also some fine semi-dungeons inside the village houses, which contain some nice newly made puzzles. Unfortunately the game is very bugged, specially all the holes. Since the main item is a Hookshot and crossing pits is a motto of the game, there are a lot of pits everywhere, and 99 percent of them lead to bugged rooms (which was intentional, as described by the early message). The problem is that the original Alttp allows only 57 rooms with "damage pits"; which should replace the "bug pits" that lead to other rooms. This problem CAN be solved in hex by repointing data and re-defining the new number of rooms with "damage pits" to maximum, so that any room can have them. The other solution would be to always select a specific room, which would be filled with spikes. The players could at least force their way out by dying. But both solutions are not implemented, the only way out is a savestate or save and quit, which is probably the biggest fault of the game. There are also various other glitches: probably all complex exits respawn the door overlay in the wrong places. One major gameplay fault is also a Heartpiece in the Hyrule Castle area (a heartpiece and an electric barrier for the Master Sword must Not be in the same area). Picking up the heartpiece, will break the electric barrier (uppon entering and exiting any entrance), which basically breaks the game; since you can come to dark world to quick and without the Mirror and get "trapped ultimately". The same problem occurs if you miss the Moonpearl (which you easily can). If any of the above happens, you have no chance but to erase the current file and start over. There are also some overworld drawing problems in the game, specially the Zora domain. This area is a mess: includes a house with non working entrance, placed "into" the trees and a paradox waterfall (you can walk from the lower part "over it" on top of a hill). Another inconvenience are the terrible monologues, which are quite despicable at times. At the beginning the monologue is actually swearing at the player every minute or so, untill you reach the uncle (which is a long time). At the end we can sadly conclude that despite some fine concepts this game has a lot more cons than pros.
| Terribly Frustrating | Klaviaturist | 2011-06-09 | - |
I was interested in checking this hack out as I was always a fan of the Evil Dead series. Creating a hack from Zelda 3 and turning it into a Evil Dead game just sounded to cool to be true. The results are less than stellar. Obviously there was quite some time that went into this hack but I can't help but think that it is unfinished and the bugs were left in just to annoy the player. The biggest annoyance being that if you fall into any kind of hole, you are screwed as there is no way of getting out. Sometimes you will fall into a single room with no doors and no items in which to possibly help getting out of the situation. Other times you will fall into a hole and suddenly Ganon will be there but you have no way to win the battle. Another annoyance is the fact that every few minutes a message will pop-up on the screen bashing and cussing at the player. At first I got a kick out of it, but when it kept happening I just got frustrated. I think if these issues were addressed it would be a playable and probably fun hack. Otherwise I wouldn't try it. If you do try it, use a LOT of save states to avoid some frustration.
| Nearly unplayable | p4ch3c0 | 2011-05-16 | - |
Patch version: 1.1 This bug-ridden hack shouldn't even be hosted here. Aside from the terrible writing and the broken data select screen [1], nearly every single pit leads to a glitched area [2]. There are warnings in-game about this behavior [3] [4] [5] [6], and the readme claims that the bugs are part of the hack. It's a shame, as the game attempts to introduce brilliant gameplay elements not used in the original game, like using bombs to clear gaps [7]. The author's unwillingness to fix the glitches is the main reason why I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, and the annoying message that comes up every minute or so certainly doesn't help [8].
| classic game with a twist | provcelica | 2009-11-06 | - |
Bruce Campbell vs Ganon is a good game. So anybody who is a die hard fan of Zelda should give Bruce Campbell vs Ganon a shot. I played a couple stages already. So far I'm hooked on the game. I can't wait to see the ending of Bruce Campbell vs Ganon. Thanks again for this great hack KGP4death.
