| Insulting to a classic | Smannesman | 2023-07-02 | Version 1.0 |
I get what the artist is going for, but the sprites look like they come from a bad mobile port and don't fit with the rest of the game. And calling the original art ugly is in poor taste. The original sprites are much better and a timeless classic. Definitely NOT an improvement.
| Does what it says, and it's great! | Uberdubie | 2023-07-02 | Version 1.0 |
I can't help but feel the negative responses to this prematurely looked at the pictures without sincerely PLAYING it with the changes. Seeing this in motion is what won me over - it's animated BEAUTIFULLY, and I quickly got used to the new aesthetic as if it was there all along. The Zelda and Link sprites are both very well done, and the animations look better as well! I'd argue these have more character compared to the vanilla versions, when Link attacks facing forward and opens his mouth with a subtle yet more forceful expression - for example. Great touch! We're all used to the original sprites of course, and some will protest a change to them no matter what. I also grew up with this game and thus have complete nostalgia for the vanilla sprites myself, yet I still appreciate the great work done here. I imagine those who didn't grow up in the SNES era may prefer these in fact, as they're styled more like recent iterations of the protagonist - especially if you're looking for a younger-looking Link. And just like the name suggests, these are more accurate to some of the artwork from that time as well.
| Please make it MSU-1 compatible! | uncaged | 2022-04-29 | Version 1.0 |
I was using the Minish Cap Link hack before since I didn't like the original Link at all, but it always felt out of place. And when I saw this one - it was exactly what I wanted for a long time. Awesome work and great style, well-fitting the game. I wish it was compatible with MSU-1 patch so I could have a complete experience with the Art Accurate Link & Zelda, full quality music, and cinematics. Other than that - amazing work!
| An Improvement | mattdog1000000 | 2022-04-25 | Version 1.0 |
For those like myself that can't stand the original game's sprites, these are a step up. The Zelda animations could use a bit of work (the original animations weren't good, either, but I find the new style makes her arm swinging a lot more distracting). I would love the rest of the enemies and NPCs to also have their sprites updated, but changing Link alone makes this game a whole lot more tolerable for me (especially with the improvements from REDUX as well).
| Beyond ugly. WHY? | driver | 2022-04-24 | Version 1.0 |
The original sprites are iconic and timeless. These replacements are absolutely horrendous. They have absolutely zero resemblance to the promotional artwork of Link and Zelda, instead they look more like bloated dolls with some quite disturbing eyes. The other problem is that they absolutely do not fit within the rest of the game. at all. Would these sprites work as a joke option in the Link to the Past Randomizer along with Batman, Kenny, Mario et al? Sure. Here? Hell no. Not recommended. At all. Ever.
