The game was challenging, maybe a little unfair in places without the use of save states, but overall unique and worth trying out. Many of the backgrounds and levels had fun ideas and shapes in them (cities, space, castles, underwater ships...). I was on the fence whether or not to recommend this romhack because the many of the backgrounds and sprites look incredibly glitchy, and it can be hard to tell what is the foreground and what is the background at times. Super Mario Land - Timelines gives you 12 new levels to play through. The author implemented several fun and creative ideas. I especially liked the inventive use of the bosses, the cave designs and the fun little touches like entering small houses. The game is a tad harder than vanilla SML, especially level 3-1 and 3-2 might test your patience and perseverance. I think Super Mario Land - Timelines could be more accessible to average players by adding more extra lives and toning down some of the harder parts. I noticed some small bugs during my play through, but nothing game breaking. Overall Super Mario Land - Timelines is a fun playthrough. For fans of SML, this is a worthwhile ROM hack to try! | |||
