Hack description

A patch that reverts some selected FF6A dialogue, enemy names, item names, spell names and ability names from the GBA version to the SNES equivalent, in some cases mixing the accuracy of the GBA translation and dialogue with the more evocative language of the SNES translation's dialogue.

It started as a personal project, but I decided to release it publicly in case others were interested, as I've heard many fans dislike some of the same changes I have on more than one occasion.

In addition to reverting some of the dialogue, it attempts to restore the more interesting, clever, amusing and/or evocative spell, item, enemy, and ability names from the SNES translation of the game where the GBA equivalent wasn't as strong. Attention has been paid to try to avoid having to get sloppy with abbreviations, though, since the absence of that is one of the strengths of the Advance version.

This patch is for the European version of the game. (See readme for further details.)

Still the most well-written FF6 Scripttacodaemon2023-02-11Version 2.0

I first played this fairly close to release. I loved it. It was so nuanced and well written. However, I still prefer the SNES version of the game to GBA due to its higher quality visuals and music. I've seen several new updated script hacks show up for the SNES version, but I still prefer this one over all of them. I really wish it could be ported to SNES like the FFV GBA script was. I think my next playthrough will be this version again. Thanks so much for making this.

(Review for Verison 2.0)

I always liked the "Woolsey-isms" of the SNES version, and I was disappointed when those lines were replaced by Slattery's translation. This patch fixes several of the lines, but doesn't get them all. Two that come to mind are Kefka's "Son of a submariner!" and Terra's dialogue after Edgar explains why he's helping her.

One other thing that bugs me is Cyan's SwordTech/Bushido. If it's different just because of the different translator, that should be something else you should change if you can. That is, assuming you would update the patch in the future.

Still, the patch is great otherwise.
