Hack description

Ranma 1/2: Chougi Ranbu Hen is a good fighting game close to SF2 but with one big flaw: Its framerate is catastrophic. The game is calibrated for 60 fps but can never reach it even if you don't touch the controller and leave the fighters idling. It varies continuously between 30 and 50 fps. With the way games used to work, this means that Ranma runs in slow motion all the time.
The other consequences are a degraded input lag and that the game also has very bad frame pacing because the duration of the frames themselves is very variable. It can vary from 1 to 4.

The hack consists on optimizing the code of the most expensive tasks (this is not a SA1 or FastROM hack). This goes from sprite management to collision management, including input management and sound effects, plus a few other little things.
The result is a game that now runs with a rock stable 60 fps framerate. There is no longer any frame drop even in the most extreme situations. It completely changes the pacing of the game. The input lag is also improved and the frame pacing is now perfect.

In addition, the patch also includes the correction of 4 collision bugs which very slightly change the behavior of collisions by improving precision.

This hack is currently incompatible with the translation patch. It's not just a menu glitch issue: they overwrites each other's data.

The game take another dimensionwabbajackw2024-08-01Version 1.1

I'll keep it simple, this patch completely changes the game. Stable 60fps, it makes gaming extremely more enjoyable. This is the way to play this game. Thank you Upsilandre

This is crazy!r1ggles2024-07-28Version 1.0

How well the game now runs can't be overstated, it plays so drastically better that it feels like a completely different game. GET THIS PATCH! Emulation, real HW, doesn't matter. It's not a "fastrom/overclock fixes it" type of situation with this game, this is an optimization on a level that I don't think I've seen before on the SNES.

Makes me wonder what other games on the SNES could possibly get a treatment like this, Earthbound has some frame pacing/drop problems.

I couldn't get it to work with the translation patch sadly, no matter the order I patched the game in, hopefully that gets a fix later. But, even if it doesn't, this is such a crazy improvement that you shouldn't play the game without this framerate improvement patch.

Unbelievable!luna2112024-07-28Version 1.0

What a difference! Remember how awful the slowdown used to be for Ranma's last fighter on the SNES/Super Famicom? This labor of love leaves it all behind. I doubt I'll ever go back to the original. Highly recommended!
