| Top-notch translation for a fun JRPG | Ok Impala! | 2023-03-29 | Version 1.7 |
This is a top-notch translation. I played through the game from start to finish and had a great time! The dialogues are very lively and give color to the game. I imagine the translator didn't literally translate the original script, but added some flavor here and there. Judging by the end result, this was a good decision. This translation is on-par with the best translations for the SNES and far surpasses many official ones. As for the game itself. I had a lot of fun playing through Dual Orb II. I adjusted my expectations based on other reviews, and came out satisfied. I especially liked the colorful graphics, the music, and some interesting ideas in the story. This is a fun JRPG to try if you are craving for an old-school experience and don't want to replay one the classics again. Set your expectations accordingly and there is a fun little game to be found here! Just a quick tip. Check out the guides on Gamefaqs.com. There are some great tips about Dual Orb II, that will surely improve your experience playing the game.
| Pretty Generic but its not that bad | WeretigerRei | 2012-03-14 | - |
"Generic" is a very good adjective for this game. Where its not generic is the difficulty. Some of the endgame boss battles can be brutal while the final boss is fairly easy. Make sure you buying Magic Chains and Guard Talismans when you can cause youll need them for the fight with Organa. And remember Ghidion's advise about buffing. All buffs last though the entire battle and most persist after death. Its not a bad RPG. If you dont mind playing a generic JRPG this ones for you.
| Such High Expectations... | Klaviaturist | 2011-03-08 | - |
Dual Orb 2 is a fairly standard JRPG with actually very nice graphics and a interesting story. What makes the games bad (in my opinion) is the ridiculously high random encounter level (sometimes you'll take one step and be back in a battle) and the incredibly monotonous soundtrack. As stated, the graphics are actually the high point of the game. Overworld/Overhead graphics are very FF6 reminiscent and the battle graphics are simply beautiful looking. The music at first was standard fare for a game like this. It was nice on the ears and not too standout. The problem came when I realized that the soundtrack itself was very small and it became very boring. VERY boring. All battles, even boss, have the same tune. It would be excusable if this were released on the Famicom or any other older system but, this is a mid years Super Famicom game and, for me, I got bored. When playing a epic game (such as this presents itself to be) I like to hear a vast soundtrack for I believe a good soundtrack can carry even a poor game. The other issue, as stated above, was the insanely high level of random battles. A small dungeon will take an eternity to go through because every other step your in battle, and listening to the same boring battle music over and over again. Then when you finally get to a boss battle and think you maybe rewarded with some new music you get the same thing. I have a high patience level but this goes beyond mine. As for the translation, it turned out really darn good. I wish I could have gotten to the end of the game (boredom over took me) because I would like to have seen how the translation played out. The story was really nice, it's just too bad it had to be filled with ridiculously boring gameplay. I can't really recommend this game unless you enjoy torturing yourself with tedium. Too bad because this looked like it could have been a really great game.
| A Simple Solid RPG+Translation | Deathlike2 | 2008-06-19 | - |
This game is really simple. The script, the gameplay, and the menus are relatively similar to other games released during its time. Although, the menus were designed intelligently.. notice that the Magic command is the topmost option. It might not have the best story, nor was it terribly innovative, but the battle graphics are a nice touch, plus the difficulty is a tad high for the average player, but that will allow you to appreciate this game much more than you normally would... at least it did for me. Don't expect out of the box RPG design, because you will then be sorely disappointed. The weapon system has been done before, but it has the knack of keeping it simple for anyone that can't remember every freaking weapon name in other games. The translation itself is pretty solid and although I don't know how accurate it is to the original, I didn't find any issue to any of the script. I do feel there are a few consistancy issues with the some of the game data that don't quite match up with the description (game errata type/bugs, not translator error) and a slightly minor issue with the blacksmith wording for selecting a character's weapon to upgrade (although that has more to do with a character limit). Otherwise, I can't complain.
