When I discovered a classic j-rpg where you could choose a main charater, and one was a Wizard (Which is kind of rare, developers prefeer guys with swords, it seems), I had to try it. After some trouble with applying the translation patch (My fault) I got it to work. And then I saw the game is pretty good, far better than I expected. I think this could be somewhat compared to games like Final Fantasy IV, very classic and simple, yet this one has some added features that make it stand out. There are lots of things I like, like how magic spells improve over time, the decent ammount of vehicles/robots/items/equipment you can build (Mammoth Tank is an awesome concept, you can feel like your own Power Ranger), the characters, without being very deep, are charming enough to become memorable and there is quite a bit of variety of places to go. Music is decent, it has some cool themes like the vehicle Battle theme, or Balaam first theme. I missed more catchy tunes, but it's not bad, and i've seen much much worse, that's for sure. Difficulty is...rather mixed. It keeps you on your toes, sometimes it becomes kind of easy (Chung kicking ass with AoE Spells in one turn) and others the bosses are a real pain in the ass. My only grip with the game is that it's a little slow sometimes, like magic taking a very long time to "level up", or that the characters walk slowly and the encounter rate is kind of high. Tip: Go to the first town, Journey, and fight weak enemies, it doesn't matter what you fight as long as you win battles for magic to improve. Overall, Wozz is a rather unique and recommended game if you like turn based rpg's. If you don't you should be patient because you may enjoy the good parts. The translation is great, I didn't see any error or anything annoying, and it made me chuckle several times. It does a great job for the type of game it is. Pretty good stuff. PS: By the way, i'm the only one that found surprising how you can move in 8 directions?
| A Surprisingly Good Parody | Klaviaturist | 2011-02-01 | - |
I was really skeptical to play this game. I am not a fan of parodies within the RPG genre (except Mother 2) so I put off playing this for quite some time. After reading a few very positive reviews I finally gave this unknown title a shot. It takes place in a "magical" realm that is being terrorized by a demon that has brought "fear rain" down on the world that is turning people into monsters. Only three young humans can stop the terror. The story is derivative but it's a parody so you can expect it's making fun of itself. It all has a light fantasy feel to it with off beat comedic undertones. The game plays like a classic JRPG with a Breath of Fire look to the battle screen. The battles are of course turn based. You gain experience to level up, etc etc. As I said, it's a classic Battle system. There are a few unique things you can do in and out of battle though. One of your characters can build vehicles to use on the map and can build robots for use in battle. Another character can make items, weapons, armor, etc from just about anything. The music was ok. I felt a lot of it was fairly repetitive. Especially the battle music. Nevertheless it all works fairly well for a light fantasy. The translation was great. I didn't notice any major errors anywhere within the dialog. It looks like quite a bit of time was put into this. The game isn't 100 percent perfect but if you like classic JRPGs for the SNES/SFC this is almost a must to check out.
| Great translation of a great game! | Hamlet | 2009-11-19 | - |
Again Nightcrawler and his TransCorp. treat us with a neat little RPG, that sadly seems to be widely unknown. I myself stumbled upon this by accident, too. That was two years ago and now I have already played twice through the whole game. The game has a lot of variety and this translation manages to convey all these different nuances of tone perfectly. Many parts are pretty funny and the game is really self aware but still surprises with some moments that have an emotional atmosphere (e.g. the desert episode, but I will not give any details here). No matter what the game variety demands, the translation fits which should be enough of an indicator, how good this translation (and the game, of course) is. If you have not played this yet, do so, because it is well worth your time! And btw, since everyone loves Easter eggs, try finding a "wozzified" version of Nightcrawler himself somewhere in the vast world of Wozz. ;)
