Utility description
This is a powerful level editor for FDS Super Mario Bros 2 (Japan). It allows you to create new areas, add, delete, move and resize objects on all areas, also you can easily make pointers for pipes, vines etc. Also you can make a lot of modifications on an engine. This editor is based on the GreatEd engine.Reviews

Straightforward like the version for SMB1. It isn't clear how green springboards can be placed, but the much bigger issue with this is that it can cause ROM corruption for seemingly no reason. All I had done was placed a loop keeper in a level and suddenly all of my work was gone. I would recommend it for smaller hacks, but unless you're religiously backing up your ROM, I'd pass for a more serious hack.

This is the best level editing tool I have came across, with some errors such as Warp Zone modification/Corruption and crashing at castles. It comes with a PowerPoint document that many antivirus tools recognize as a virus, I removed the power point file and used the app and have not had trouble with viruses as of yet.
| Great editor for a great game | Szemigi | 2020-04-29 | Version 1.2.1 |
Finally, a level editor for SMB2J that I have always wanted! The editor's engine itself is well-built, advantageous, and not least cool. I'm even glad that older operation system (Windows XP) is supported as well. I totally appreciate it. Moreover, very good option that you can check the free space in the game (Free ROM Space)! The only disadvantage comparing to SMB Utility is that jGreat doesn't have built-in emulator, so that you can directly test if a level works or not, but I don't consider it such a very big problem. I recommend to use this editor in all cases. :)

This works exactly like GreatEd but for the Japanese sequel! This requires no work to edit the Lost Levels, unlike ISD-SMBUTIL. Only problems I had is that I couldn't place the Wind Start object and 1-3 wasn't being edited, but I'm sure that's just a problem with my emulator. If you enjoyed the first GreatED, then you'll enjoy this!

I've wanted an easy-to-use editor for this game for quite some time. GreatEd was a pretty sweet editor for Super Mario Bros., and I'm thrilled that this version for Super Mario Bros. 2 now exists. Moving objects around is drag and drop. Dragging on the edges of a selected object will resize it. You can even change single Goombas or Koopas into a row of 2 to 3 of them just by selecting them and dragging the edges like you're resizing them. The limits for how things can be laid out in the actual game are fairly clear because the program will just stop you from doing impossible things rather than executing some strange behavior when you try to do them. It would be nice if the program came with some explanation for those limits, though.
