Succeeds Successfully!Subject N2812024-01-01Version 3.0

If you expected anything different than what is advertised...what's wrong with you?

Jokes aside, The Sprite work is wonderfully done and the Robot Master Palettes are not jarring on Roll's character sprite~ The work put into 3 different designs is a clear love letter to the character and looks perfectly in place in these classic Megaman Games~

A Perfect hack for those who prefer to "Roll" down Memory Lane with a beloved character from the series~

Weapon palettes are a bit different, and the menu has cute little icons, instead of letters. Items 1, 2, and 3 are all different, too, and use some creativity; I swear that Item 2 is a clever reference to Krion Conquest. Just as fun as the original, and the item left behind in the ending is very clever, given that she doesn't have a helmet.

Mega Man is a cool guy. There's no doubt about that. Roll doesn't get enough spotlight, and this was how it was done.

Several game elements to pay attention to:

  • Strong bosses with cool weapons...with Roll
  • Platforming with challenging elements...with Roll
  • Flavorful soundtrack...with Roll

Utilize this mod. It makes the game seem better.

Zynk Oxhyde again brings love to the Megaman classic series with his Roll-Chan hack of the classic Megaman 2. This is a complete character hack of MM2 that allows Rock's sister Roll to enjoy the spotlight.

Unlike the older Roll-Chan 2 hack by Yuifa, this one is a thorough and complete hack of Megaman 2, replacing everything Megman specific with Roll's likeness. All her sprite frames, the Get Weapon Portrait, 1-Ups, even the opening and ending are all changed to reflect the new playable character.

In addition, there are new custom 8x8 pixel icons for the weapons, replacing the generic letters that represent the weapons in the original game. For example, instead of an M to represent the Metal Blade, now a new icon that actually looks like a jagged metal disc appears. This change makes quickly selecting the weapon you want a breeze.

With all this said, keep in mind this is a mere graphical hack that doesn't alter the levels or other gameplay elements of Megaman 2 at all. Preexisting issues with Megaman 2 still remain, such as only being able to fire nine Crash Bombs, the metal blades are extremely overpowered, the difficulty is uneven, and so on.

What is rather nice though is that Zynk is offering four versions his hack - two for Megaman 2 (U) and two for Rockman 2 (J). The two versions for each region are Roll in her Megaman 1-7 outfit, and the other garbs her in her Megaman 8 outfit. Both outfits look as good as the NES sprite limitations will allow.

Overall, this is a recommended hack for those who want to give Roll some spotlight.
