There's so much in the way of both massive hacks that push the medium to its limits, and that whole Kaizo fad, and the sad thing is that hacks like this get lost in all of that. Good old Ridley X isn't going to blow your mind with this hack or make you curse the day you first picked up a controller, but you just might have fun. Yes, I like the big, impressive hacks; and I like a good challenge now and again, but sometimes, it's fun just to kick back and relax with something like this. Best of all, if you're just looking for something to play that's like Super Mario Bros. 3, but can be played by someone other than a Mario god, this is a great choice.

The visuals are a bit of a mixed bag, with some weird, stunning stages; but with a few that were not quite as pleasant to look at. Still, I knew that this was something special when the first thing greeting me on the World 1 map was a tileset from the bootleg Super Mario World for the NES. You'll also see the ? clouds from Yoshi's Island, which I'm not sure I've ever seen in an 8-bit hack before. The visual style is a bit whimsical overall, but this was true of the original, when you think about its stranger stages.
