| The definitive version of SF2 WW / CE / Hyper | Byros | 2023-05-13 | Version 1.0 |
In my opinion this is the definitive version of Street Fighter II / CE / Hyper for 16-bit consoles. First it includes the superb sound driver fix by Stephane Dallongeville, the upgraded driver cleans all the PCM garbled voices and SFX of the game that were present in the Genesis/Megadrive ports. Second - The stages are beautiful and upgraded to the superior "The World Warrior" art style with better colors, but also even more detail has been added to many of them, such as the 6 elephants in Dhalsim's Stage, and many more subtle changes that just improve the graphical presentation. A brilliant work by Lord Hiryu.
| A very impressive approximation | Red Soul | 2021-07-15 | Version 1.0 |
We know that the SNES was the first to get a port of Street Fighter 2 (in the form of World Warrior) and this made the console really popular. While the Mega Drive would go on to get Special Champion Edition, Nintendo did have quite a headstart in the 16-bit era thanks to its rather stringent 3rd party policies. What this hack does is revert SCE to WW as much as possible visually, and it does a great job at presenting us with a version that could have been; it's almost like playing something that came from an alternate reality where Sega's sleek black box could have beaten the SNES. Due to technical limitations the bosses are selectable, since SCE is the base, but adjustments have been made in regards to gameplay even so. It also includes the wonderful PCM driver fix by Stephane Dallongeville to make up for Capcom's laziness with sound and voices on the MD, making everything crisp and clear.
