Hack description

Just a quick sprite edit of Samus' death animation, removing the uncomfortable/questionable striptease (because why would an exploding space suit *not* also disintegrate the person inside?). Now visually consistent with her death animation in Metroid 1.

Breaks the dash abilityWilliam_Evans2024-07-10Version 1.0

Censorship patch that also has the added bonus of breaking the basic ability to dash, pretty much breaking the game.

The Good and The BadUncle_Jo2023-10-08Version 1.0

I was having a bit of a laugh testing this hack combined with the Justin Bailey hack, and can confirm 2 things.

1. This hack works fine with the Justin Bailey hack, which is good, because that hack completely replaces the Samus sprite. So if it works with the Justin Bailey hack, it will likely work with other sprite hacks.

2. Another reviewer pointed out a bug in the Dash ability. I initially thought he meant the SPEED BOOSTER ability you get later in the game, but no, the initial sprinting ability Samus has doesn't work. Hold B to dash does not work with this hack. I tried switching up the controls in the game options, didn't help. I tried screwing around with my emulator, still nothing.

If that glitch can be fixed, then this hack is great, and can likely be used with quite a few other hacks, since it doesn't interfere with the Justin Bailey hack at all.

Edit: You can see below my original review of this hack. After playing it more I need to update my review to not recommended in its current form.

This hack while in spirit is exactly what I would want to see in practice, it appears to have broken the dash functionality. (Imagine my chagrin when I discovered I could not pass the noob bridge for those that know).

If this could be fixed I would whole-heartedly recommend this hack again.

Thank you very much for this hack. It works just as listed.

I looked for something like this a few months ago and couldn't find anything. This fit the bill nicely.

Definitely a good option for someone with modest sensibilities. I would love to see something similar for Metroid Fusion.

Thanks again. Would recommend.

A simple, nice hack.starlightbotanist2022-04-12Version 1.0

This is a great hack that does exactly what it says.

I know there are canonical reasons why Samsus is shown in her zero suit when dying, but for me, that is tough sell. It feels unnecessary. This gives you the Metroid (NES) style death animation, that lacks any character model, only suit fragments, if that is something you are interested in. It has been compatible with all other super metroid hacks I have tested.

Thanks for making this option available!

Does what it says, but not necessarywerewolfslayr9252022-04-07Version 1.0

The hack works, but pokes at the heart of the game's themes. Samus' femininity is evident in her death animation which ties her to the baby metroid.

This is merely another instance of a hack unnecessarily censoring a game in line with the current political climate and should have no place in the community.

Ignore the previous reviewZzzonkers2022-04-07Version 1.0

This is a simple hack that does exactly what it says on the tin. Everyone should feel comfortable playing video games, and if the original death animation makes you feel uncomfortable in any way, this hack is for you.

Don't pay any attention to the previous review for this hack. This hack was not for them, but many will benefit from this.

A perfectly alright hacksomebread2022-04-07Version 1.0

Does what it says on the tin and is a nice change of pace if you've played the game many times, though the animation could be a little better. I appreciate the Metroid 1 callback. I question the idea of the other review that it is "not necessary", are any of these hacks necessary?
