| Exactly the hack that I was after! | The Beaky Buccaneer | 2022-06-04 | Version 1.0 |
Out here in the PAL regions we never got Super Mario RPG back in 1996, and by the time that it eventually officially arrived, still in its original 60Hz form, on the likes of the Wii and SNES Mini, Peach's name was very well-established as being what it is (and in enthusiast circles it was already well-known long before that, anyway). This led to the game's untouched script occasionally being a bit confusing, since the "Toad" part of "Toadstool" tends to bring to mind characters like Toad and Toadsworth, who were also well-established by the time of the official PAL release. Nonetheless, Super Mario RPG was known in PAL countries back in its day due to press coverage, with some import-centric magazines even running full players' guides for the game. This meant that its deviations from the Mario series' norms were also known here, and the absence of those is felt with hacks that adjust other elements as well. Cue Mateo and this simple hack that reverts only the name of Princess Peach (and her clone), and nothing else. If you want to experience Super Mario RPG otherwise-unaltered but with the name of its leading lady in place, then "Super Mario RPG with Peach's name" is the way to go. Many thanks to Mateo for this release! The patch does exactly what it's supposed to, and there isn't anything else to say. | |||
