YUBI!tsubasaplayer162023-10-16Version 1.0.1

Like the Suisei of Rage hack I reviewed before, made by the same creator, this is really a joy to play. However, unlike the aforementioned hack, I am a bit disappointed that pressing down-down+right-right doesn't automatically dash, though I do hear the sound effect that's supposed to play alongside it, so double tapping left/right is only way to dash. Must be a design choice or an unintentional bug, but I don't know. Also no Idol Showdown title screen or Yukoku Roberu cameo in the Bar.

I have to say a few disclaimers though:

1. Don't try to patch this and the Suisei of Rage hack together, it's incompatible (at least for now, anyway). You won't go past the character select screen and it will spout garbled stuff. I suspect that because almost everything else had to be accounted for the modded character's color pallete (much like how Suisei of Rage has almost every single enemy and the HUD more blue), and/or that it occupies the same space as the modded character, it can't be combined in tandem. I could be wrong about that though, but the takeaway is that they can't be combined.

2. Because this uses the JP/PAL ROM, this is also region locked on original hardware if you're trying to play on a Genesis instead of a Mega Drive, even after patching the original ROM. You will have to patch it again so that it will force the Japanese region setting when playing on a Genesis, link here: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1687/ On the "Patching" area, click on Japan/NTSC and then click "Patch region bypass into your ROM" (it should also fix the checksum as well just in case). Afterwards the hack will be playable on a Genesis. To put things into perspective, I have the Mega Everdrive X7, which also has the Megakey so that the forced Japanese region patching will auto-play on my Genesis. You may have to patch it twice (JP first then US) if you have the X3 or X5 versions, though I cannot confirm if that will work, much less even necessary to do such a thing since I don't own any of those. However, doing the aforementioned activates the English intro and Streets of Rage 2 title screen instead of Bare Knuckle II on my Genesis.

Grab the knife if you want to see Korone spouting YUBI!, just as a tip.
